�Getting pregnant with her first child was difficult, but when Rebecca Killmeyer of Charlottesville, Va. experient a stillbirth during her second gestation, she wasn't sure if she would ever have another baby. When she decided to enter a study testing the impingement of stylostixis on women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) at the University of Virginia Health System, she came out with a miracle.
"To our great surprise we were blessed with a third maternity during the PCOS study," said Killmeyer. "I'm absolutely certain the acupuncture treatments helped me ovulate regularly, which allowed me to become pregnant."
Lisa Pastore, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UVA Health System and principle researcher of the study, was hoping for results like this. Her goal has been to help women with PCOS have unconstipated menstrual cycles. PCOS causes a hormonal imbalance, meddlesome with ovulation and finally, fertility. With several women in the study reportage pregnancies, Pastore believes that acupuncture could be an important substitute, non-drug therapy for women with this disorder.
"Over the last year we have seen women who ne'er had a regular menstrual cycle begin having regular periods. We can besides boast several pregnancies since the work began," aforesaid Pastore. "Now we would like to recruit more people to the study in decree to discharge the study. It is important for research to have enough participants to ensure that the results are scientifically credible and not due to chance."
Scared and doubting was how Killmeyer described her initial feelings towards the experimental treatment, simply soon her worries gave way to relaxation.
"When I saw those tiny slight needles approach at me I thought to myself, 'I didn't sign up for this!' merely I tried and true it and after a few minutes I was asleep on the table," Killmeyer aforesaid. "The sessions were totally refreshing after awhile."
Killmeyer learned of her PCOS in 2005. Over the past five old age she did not have regular, monthly periods. One month after she started acupuncture treatments she got a period and for the next three months, they continued.
"I had finished all my acupuncture treatments and was in the end stages of the study when I became pregnant," Killmeyer said. "We had already scheduled our follow-up appt with our fertility doctors when we found out we were pregnant."
Five percentage of reproductive age women are affected by PCOS. Symptoms of PCOS can buoy include small cysts on their ovaries, infrequent or irregular vaginal bleeding, male-pattern hair growth, and acne. Insulin resistivity and pre-diabetes also can develop.
While there are many traditional drugs and therapies that handle this syndrome, this research is assessing whether stylostixis can be successful in regulating hormones and hardening the symptoms of PCOS.

Good Time Rock and Roll Launches Great Park Summer Night Flight Series
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 2 -- The Orange County Great Park

B.C. court says cops can ask to smell breath of suspected drunk drivers
VANCOUVER - A B.C. court says it's okay for police officers to ask for a whiff of breath from a suspected drunk driver.
The ruling may have implications for a planned appeal for Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger, who was convicted on an impaired driving charge in Surrey, B.C. after a Mountie asked him to blow in his face.
The B.C. Court of Appeal case involved Jason Edward Weintz, who was convicted of drunk driving after being pulled over in 2004 and being asked to blow in an officer's face before the cop used a breathalyzer to determine he was impaired.
He appealed and a B.C. Supreme Court judge overturned the conviction, ruling the request to blow in the officer's face constituted an unreasonable search and seizure.
However, the appeal court has reversed that decision, saying the request was reasonable under the circumstances, adding such action is minimally intrusive and can be done quickly at the side of the road.
Kroeger was fined $600 May 1 after a conviction on a drunk driving charge, but his lawyer says he will appeal, claiming the Nickelback frontman's rights were violated when he took a breathalyzer test after he was stopped for speeding in 2006.

Winehouse turns up late for vital gig
Amy Winehouse turned up late for her "make-or-break" gig in Lisbon yesterday.
The troubled singer had been instructed to prove her reliability at the Rock In Rio festival if she wanted her US tour to go ahead.
However, her comeback got off to a poor start when she failed to appear at the scheduled time of 10pm. Though the audience booed when there was no sign of Winehouse, she got a warm reception when she finally came on stage at 10.35pm.
Amy apologised for her lack of punctuality and told the audience that she had a sore throat which was making her voice weak. She later said that she "should have cancelled" her appearance.

Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as the beleaguered police chief Martin Brody in 'Jaws', has died. He was 75.
The two-time Oscar nominee died of complications from multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood cells, at the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Hospital spokesperson Leslie Taylor said the actor had been treated there for the disease at different times over the past two years.
New Jersey-born Scheider earned his first Oscar nomination (Best Supporting Actor) in 1971 for 'The French Connection'.
Eight years later he was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in 'All That Jazz'.
Among his other credits were 'Klute', 'Marathon Man', 'Still of the Night' and the TV adventure series 'SeaQuest DSV'.

Eddy Arnold, whose mellow baritone on songs like "Make the World Go Away" made him one of the most successful country singers in history, has died.

The New York City Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, has said that Mary-Kate Olsen will not be questioned by detectives about Heath Ledger's death.
"There's absolutely no indication investigators were going to speak to Mary-Kate Olsen," Kelly said at a news conference, echoing a previous statement by police officials.
He continued: "They determined that they had all the info needed from witnesses who were on scene: the cleaning woman and the masseuse."
Ledger's masseuse, Diana Wolozin, found his body on Tuesday 22 January in his Manhattan apartment when she arrived for an appointment she had with the she had with the 'Brokeback Mountain' star.
Police have said Wolozin made three calls to Olsen before dialling 911 for help and then phoned the 21-year-old actress a fourth time after paramedics arrived.
At some point during the calls Olsen, who was in California, summoned her personal security guards to the apartment to help, police have said.
She has not spoken publicly about the calls and has only said: "Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time."

Michael Moore - Madonna To Headline Michael Moore Film Festival
Documentary maker MICHAEL MOORE has landed a big boost for his Traverse City Film Festival in Michigan - MADONNA's coming home for it.
The pop superstar's I am Because We Are documentary, about Aids orphans in Malawi, will headline the alternative film festival in August (08).
And the Material Girl will be there in person.
Thrilled Moore says, "Madonna will present the film, watch it with the audience and conduct a question-and-answer session afterwards.
"It's a huge coup for the Film Festival, and for Traverse City."
And the hard-hitting documentarian, who has taken the U.S. medical profession and President George W. Bush to task in his films, has nothing but praise for Madonna's new release, which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
He adds, "She spent the past couple of years filming what the people go through, and the efforts to help them. I saw the film about a month ago. It's a fantastic, powerful movie."
Madonna produced and narrated the documentary after travelling to Malawi, where she met toddler David Banda. She and husband Guy Ritchie are adopting the child.
